Fast, accurate business proofreading and editing for busy business professionals

After 12 years in Asia, I have finally returned to Wilmington, North Carolina.

Checking with the boss

BBC News reports that spelling mistakes cost millions in lost online sales and that a single spelling mistake can cut your sales figures in half.

Need an editor?

It's entirely too easy to read what's in your mind instead of what you've actually typed. Then you send out your business letter or bid or whatever, and then you see that glaring embarrassing typo that you missed. Then you cringe, and hope it was someone else's mistake and not yours.

Let your business team focus on what they do best. I'll focus on catching your misspellings, typos, unclear wording, and grammatical mistakes, because that's what I do best. I guarantee accuracy, on time every time, so you have one less thing to worry about.

If you've got a tight deadline, let me know what it is and I'll try my best to meet it. Otherwise, my usual turnaround time is 24 hours or less.

I've always taken pride in my attention to detail and my knowledge of written English, and all my editing and proofreading includes unlimited revisions. Since the only work I do is editing and proofreading from home, I also tend to be fast.

This list of "what I specialize in" will seem a bit long, but to tell you the truth, it's probably not even complete.

  • Business and academic letters, reports, manuals, books, and presentations
  • RFPs, proposals, and bids
  • White papers and special reports
  • Advertising
  • Public Relations
  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Thesis papers and articles for peer review
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Spec sheets
  • Transcribed audio
  • Translated documents
  • Self-help manuals

Basically, I'm one of those nuts who can't read a printed book or a magazine without wanting to whip out my red pen. Mistakes jump out at me when I'm not even looking for them.

I like turning on Tracking in MS Word, so you can see all my suggestions and Accept/Reject/Ignore each one individually. There's another school of thought which I think was summed up best by Kerry Larkin, who said "I don't want to edit my editor." That works too. You're the author, not me.

I've edited and proofread over 300 published textbooks and novels. Here's some of the fiction and here's some of the nonfiction.

I'm American, but you don't have to be. I've worked with authors from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Dubai, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Haiti, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Libya, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Uganda, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Michael LaRocca has edited my books. His command of the English language is better than mine and I have a B.S. Degree.

Darrell Bain

Michael LaRocca has been our editor for many years, reviewing dozens of documents, as well as our weekly newsletter. He has kept us from looking stupid countless times. Working with an editor can be tricky. There are questions of style and the pressure of deadlines. Working with Michael is easy and friction-free. He has been extremely flexible and helped us meet even our most unreasonable deadlines. He has spoiled us and we hope we never have to use another editor. We plan to use his services as long as he cares to provide them.

Carl Dickson, Capture Planning

Michael is an energetic, engaged personality that produces more work per calorie consumed than any I've met since. His passion is writing and he pursues it with voracity and the results are impressive!

Ressie Cavenaugh, Eastern Instruments

Michael had done excellent job on English editing for the Journal of The Royal college of Orthopaedic Surgery of Thailand for 2 years

Sattaya Rojanasthien

I was looking for an editor for my fourth book entitled Nine Principles for Inspired Action: A New & Targeted Perspective. Michael came highly recommended to me from a fellow author, Steve Underation, who used Michael to edit The Platinum Rule for Trade Show Mastery. I was looking for someone who would not only edit (grammar, word usage, etc.) the manuscript but someone who would provide feedback on areas that were weak and needed improvement. Michael provided both the editing and the feedback I need to make the manuscript more readable and understandable. I would recommend Michael for any editing project. He not only did a professional job but did it cost effectively and in a timely manner. Thank You Michael.

Michael knows his business and performs tirelessly, providing excellent turnaround. His communication skills and willingness to explain his process are a distinct value.

Stephen Shore

Michael is a first-class editor who provides much more added value than his peers. Whether he is editing a marketing brochure or book-length manuscript, Michael goes beyond simple editing to ensure that the written work delivers the impact the author desires. His broad experience base and international perspective make him ideal for assignments that must not only touch but move global audiences. Individuals and organizations who wish to get the maximum impact for their editing and writing dollars would be well advised to take advantage of Michael's services.

Todd Stone

I recommend Michael as a superb writer and editor. However, beyond those professional qualifications, he is a delightful person to know and to work with. His integrity is beyond question and his enthusiasms for his work and associates are both impressive and endearing. Above all, he is a good friend to those who are lucky enough to win his affection. He will not let you down.

James Cumes

After my papers had been edited by LaRocca, the simple words and sentences became an excellent article. He demonstrated a high degree of expertise and his work was very clear and smooth. His style was open and willing gave his customer an unlimited revision for free when some content was changed by other reviewers. Learning from his work can be led to improve my writing. LaRocca is extremely enthusiastic about his work which is infectious. His work was alway submit on time. I certainly would recommend him for any editing.

Vatwong Greepala
