Purpose Driven Leadership

Managers can get compliance, but only leaders can get buy-in.

If you lead selflessly, you will draw people to you. If you lead selfishly, you will push them away.

You don't have to be perfect. If you score at least a base hit one out of every three times you are at bat, you're still going to Cooperstown. You don't have to be perfect. Once you accept that, and take the pressure off yourself, you get stuff done, and people follow you.

Leadership is a privilege, not a right. Lead with humility, not with ego. Whenever you get in trouble, and look back later, you'll see it was because you led with ego.

Phrased another way, would you rather be right or would you rather be effective?

If a leader fears they're secretly not worthy, they compensate by trying to pass themselves off as perfect, which undermines their credibility and their effectiveness, and just pisses everybody off. You know the type.

Would you rather be right or would you rather be effective?

Learn from anyone and everyone. It's a whole lot easier to do that if you're not trying to pass yourself off as perfect. Lead with humility, not with ego. A good question is ten times more valuable than a good answer.

When you find your passion, you will find your path. Run to things, not away from things.

Take care of others. Especially the less fortunate. There is great joy in serving others.

Stand for what you believe in. Be bold but be wise. Life a life that counts. Finish strong. Leave a legacy you can be proud of.

Luke Skywalker always beats Darth Vader.
